Charter for Compassion

Ted (the site, not someone I know) helped me stumble upon this peace initiative which I am compelled to share with this very small audience here on my blog. Pass it on.

If this doesnt inspire you....

...you must be a lost cause!

While not much is there to see right now, cancerclimber.org is a great place to help a good cause. It's the brainchild of
Sean Swarner, who survived cancer twice as a child and now with only one lung has summited the 7 peaks and soon endeavors to go on expeditions to both the North and South Pole. Oh, and by the way, he just became the first cancer survivor (and one lung-ed guy) to complete the Iron Man. Phew. tired just typing about it. Be moved by Sean reading his book, Keep Climbing, which doubles as his mantra as he visits hospitals and high schools all over giving motivational speeches.

Ripped off

I love that I can grab a video off you tube now! I found Ripzor, which is super easy to use.  If you want to then grab the music off that file, check out freeware called, AoA audio extractor.  That should keep you busy for awhile.

Good Reads

While I'm aware there are features on lots of the social media sites like facebook where you can share your good reads and book recommendations,Good Reads does just that..... and only that.

You can create your own bookshelf, provide reviews, and kill hours pouring over reviews from your real and virtual friends.  For those of us still reading those clumsy, bound piles of printed paper, its dipping a toe in the pool of new media.  Next stop,  Kindle.

I heart google

Dont forget to download Google's new browser,
Chrome.  Explorer makes me nutty, and while I do think that Firefox is the "browser of champions" as my office friend put it, where Google leads, I will follow.....

Social Vibe

I'm not techy enough to figure out how to have this as a constant on my page so I figured posting would do....check out this great way to support a cause you care about...the best part, its customizable.

Running isnt for everyone...or is it?

The GORE-TEX (TM) Trans Rockies Run is going on this week.....it kicked off on Sunday in Beaver Creek, CO. Its a very cool race that I was certain was only for elite trail runners. I have been proven wrong in that assumption. A running pal of mine, Carl, is making a real go of it out there in the Rockies, taking the altitude in stride and keeping his eye on the finish line. Yesterday he completed a 24 miler in 7.5 hours. Today brings another 14 followed by the last two days at 23 miles and 21 miles. ALL IN THE MOUNTAINS!! He's pictured here with his running partner (the race is done in teams) Follow his run and the TRR fun here on the GORE-TEX (TM)TRR website.

Hyatt....remixed

I just returned from a stay in Detroit and just had to mention the Hyatt Place. I was very impressed. It was not what I was expecting in Motor City or in a Hyatt for that matter. The image and decor was fresh and I especially enjoyed the flatscreen TV that had no business being that big. Rumor was the concert buses in the parking lot were none other than Miss Dolly Partons. Bonus.

We also had a great nite at the Tigers game...athough I was reminded of home (Philly) when the fans started leaving in the 6th inning.

I am in the car a lot

Or at least it feels like it. Even with one slobbery baby and a singing (or sometimes crying) toddler in the car I still have enough attention to drive while noticing billboards. I am a marketer after all. I LOVE the Corona billboards. Enough that I actually emailed them telling them so! Their new ad campaign is so clever and edearing and if you have time, play on their redesigned, interactive website

Oliver Peoples....too choice for the workin man...

I really want those Oliver Peoples aviators....but turns out they're like $450 or something. For glasses!! Since Im not working on wall street and havent won the lottery, I'm looking for alternatives. Im pretty sure Ray Bans bore me, although I appreciate the nostalgia since they were the eyewear of choice when I was in high school. I did come across a great pair of Oakleys, but Oakley is just so everywhere. So my search brought me to Mosley Tribes Awesome. If you have the time, be sure to check out the Mosley Tribes blog.

The Human Race

Nike has this great promotion going on....its called the Human Race. As a sort of grassroots marketer myself I find this idea so intriguing. At the heart of it, its their way of building community....the largest community of runners ever, mind you, to run, all at the same time a la hands across America, for you 80s fans. While connecting people via a common interest Nike is enabling people to participate regardless of their location or resources,...all via their Nike Plus technology. I sure would like to work with the genius who came up with this program, which has me totally engaged.

If you want to learn more about the program check out Nikeplus.com and click on The Human Race.

Also worth noting is the concept, on a smaller scale, being executed for women only. Click on "Run like a girl" for more info on that.

Enhanced water wars: "hydrate responsibly"

I saw an amazing brand marketing presentation recently around the enhanced water category and the result of that is a keen interest in the emerging industry itself. I have taken to trying every overpriced, wasteful plastic bottle of VitaminWater there is. The verdict is in....my favorite flavs are: XXX and B-Relaxed. Loving those. The rest of them you can have....too "juicy" and not "watery" enough for me. And the big missing link for me is caffeine, which I embrace at every opportunity. So aside from those two flavs I am back on Propel which has recaptured my favor due to the addition of vitamins and caffeine.....unlike others, I enjoy the bitter aftertaste of artificial sweetener and so will take that over the extra calories and tooth brushing. I'll leave that for the Red Bull I have every single morning....not kidding friends...I do have a Red Bull every morning around 8am...but its mostly bc I've been up with my son for 4 hours already at that point and my coffee high is long gone. So have your own little taste test.....maybe that store brand is actually as good and you can save a few bucks. (I doubt it though....).

Another gift card.....

Ok, so I happen to LOVE gift cards. Espically the kind for
Peter Kate, Amazon,orNordstrom. But for all of you that get gift cards to stores that aren't in your top ten, you need to visit Plastic Jungle where you can trade it for something you'd rather have or cash it in! Very cool.

Back from St. Simons

We've just returned from St. Simons Island, GA...a great little place off the coast of Florida. The weather was perfect but traveling with kids sometimes makes coming back to work seem like vacation. Anyway, been awhile since I posted so in lieu of some wonderful link, I will share with you a site I stumbled upon yesterday that offers so much.....if you have time to kill this is the site for you.

Politics aside...this is amazing

I was watching the news this morning and there was a great story about a 2 year old in recovery from cerebral palsy bc of an infusion of his own cord blood/stem cells, which his parents banked at birth. Amazing.

So even if you dont support stem cell research, or dont know much about it, check out Dana and Christopher Reeve's Foundation. They're dedicated to spinal cord injury research and have a whole lot of information around the uses of stem cells/cord blood.

I am trying....

Well as all of you know I am a huge Oprah fan. I got snared in her Harpo web when I was home on maternity leave with my first little one. Ever since I am slowly turning into a stalker....I've been to the show, subscribed to her magazine, I tivo the show each day, get the email newsletters...the only thing I haven't done is tivo-ed (don't you love that Tivo is a verb now) the after-show broadcast and joined her book club. You see, it seriously takes me about 6 months to read a book properly bc yours truly doesn't settle in to read until about 9pm....and I go to bed at about 9:15. BUT with all of the pressure, buzz, and history making sales surrounding her web class re A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle I simply had to buy in. So I got the book on amazon.com, not a moment too soon....I am two chapters in: I am not yet awakened. Maybe its that I'm quite literally half asleep when I'm trying to be awakened...who knows.

One last thing about Oprah....I'll tell you what - she sure is putting the pressure on. Every show I watch adds one more thing to my mental list. My husband is starting to thinkI am nutty.....Oprah's backing Obama, well then I better find out why,..Dr. Oz says break your daily vitamin in half so you can have some now and some later,....I'm lucky to remember to even buy vitamins at the grocery store! Oprah says your bra needs to fit just right so go get measured....too bad my post pardum rack is a different shape each week. Drew Barrymore gives a cool mil to theWorld Food Program, well I must give what I can too then! Oprah says per the Law of Attraction I must always stay positive in the language I let pass my lips,....it goes on and on....they even called my comfy sweats the outfit of a schlumpadink! I must draw the line there Oprah. So the point is to say....I am trying.

Work "looks" fun

Unlike most, I dont dread going to work. In fact, I pretty much love what I do. But still, it is, after all work. I am in a building that was designed in the 70s, and while new desks and carpet and fresh coat of paint go a long way, sometimes I look around the office and its just BLA. So to spice things up I order a few times a year from this great website, See Jane Work. Check it out

Lets all choose to have a great day.

I had to post this. I think I have had mixed feelings about "the secret" ever since I became aware of it. But the more I learn, the more I see it happening all around me. Please feel free to start your day with this video. Upon first watching it seems a bit hokey,.... or too perhaps too spiritual, but regardless of how it seems to you, the message is there. Once you're aware of it, the law of attraction is undeniable.

I want to Live Strong

So I am kicking it into high gear this week. Giving myself the smack down on bad habits and trying to step it up for my workouts. I know come spring I will thank myself. But aside from not fitting into any of my pants yet which is driving me nutty, I have found inspiration in a couple of places. One, my hero Oprah who had Dr. Oz on again this week. Check out his great tips here . And on the workout side of things, I try and participate in the Livestrong Challenge each year but this year it conflicts with a big work event in Colorado called the GORE-TEX Trans Rockies Run which I am going to attend this year. Last year I was 8 months pregnant so couldn't fly out there but this year,... if I start training now, I might even be able to participate for a day.

Lets not talk politics at dinner.....

Or over drinks for that matter. I do subscribe to this social rule. In fact, I learned the hard way that you just shouldn't talk politics in general with friends. I was reading one of my trade pubs this week and came across a great marketing program that Nintendo did in marketing the Wii....they did a press event with mom bloggers. (sadly I was not invited). Anyway, so I checked out the blog of the trendy mom blogger who hosted the Wii event - I was really thrown for a loop at how much she was blogging about her support for a certain presidential candidate. Isnt that a bit risky for a blogger to do- potentially alienating your own fanbase? So rest assured I am not going to tell you who to vote for on this blog, but I am going to seriously encourage you to educate yourself on the platforms on which each of our presidential candidates stand. There are a ton of sites out there that can help. I'm a big fan of
MTV's Choose or Lose. If you MUST talk this unpleasantness at your next social gathering, the least you can do is be informed.

When I'm bored....

Which isnt much these days between work, working out and family stuff.... I have some favorite websites that I poke around on. Here is the perfect example of a great time-killer site: Boing Boing: A Directory of Wonderful Things

Another thing I like to do is pretend I have enough flow to even consider buying a new house....one with some of the things we crave right now - a pantry, a wider garage, a 4th bedroom, etc. So I love to peek at the homes for sale on Zillow. While the market is putred right now, it makes for a GREAT time to get a steal on a second home/investment home.

And finally, if I'm really bored, I pour over trashy gossip sites:
Perez, The Superficial, X 17

go ahead and click 'em, I wont tell...

stomping the pavement

No, I have not lost the last ten lbs of baby weight yet, no I do not have any pants that fit, yes I do eat whatever I want (remind me to share the amazing panini recipe from this weekend - bacon, ham, chedder cheese, ahhhhh) and yes I have started working out. Sooooooo...either I am going to have to start working out more, and harder, or I will have to lose the beer, bread and sugar from my diet...which to me, is like cutting off a limb with a dull knife. I have decided to give it until the end of March before I start to panic or even consider buying pants that are a size or two bigger. They say it takes 9 months to put it on, so you should expect that it will take that long to take it off....that makes sense right? So that gets me into the summer before I have to start finding another excuse. But for now, I enjoy using the Nike Training Log to track my workouts. Aside from the fact that they will supply you with a running plan, its very motivating to enter in your workouts each day....and then at the end of each month you can't lie to yourself about how hard you have been working bc its all right there!

Dela-WHERE?

Yes friends....this is where I live. And no, this is not an exaggeration.

Two things....

I'm going to try and make this blogging thing more regular now that I am in a "routine." Since I sit in front of a computer most weekdays I get to poke around to a lot of great websites and blogs. So here are my two things for today.

This past weekend I got a great facial at my favorite spa, Calista Grand and while I was there noticed a great line of handbags....big and small and very colorful. All leather but so supple I though they might be vegan. Anyway, visit Latico Leathers. I was dying to buy one, but resisted....I cannot justify another bag right now. Which leads me to a thought I have all of the time - Why cant stars like Lindsay Lohan and Mary Kate Olsen donate their sweet handbags to fashionista suburban moms like me? I mean, I once saw a cribs episode with Kimora Lee and she was showing us her closet...which had, seriously, about 150 designer handbags strewn on the shelves like stepchildren. She totally is no longer going to carry them, bc they are SO last year or whatever. So what happens to all of these handbags that stars carry for about a week and then toss? Toss them my way sistas! Seriously...I need to start a little handbag drive for us budget conscious moms who crave a little bit of luxe! Anyway, thats what I was thinking about last night in yoga during shavasana when I was supposed to be imagining myself floating atop water like a lily pad.

One a more serious note, lets switch gears bc this week my favorite girlfriend Oprah gave us her Oprahs Quit Smoking Challenge. I dare say I still have a few peeps who allow themselves to smoke. You know who you are!! Oprah can help!

Welcome to 2008

What's new? Well, in my world, some things very new, some things seem never to change. For starters, things are calming on the home front. My little hero Indy has been sleeping through the night since Christmas. It was his first present to me....the BEST present ever I might add.

I chopped all of my locks off just after Christmas. 12 inches off! 10 of them went to the Beautiful Lengths campaign. (the Hilary Swank thing)
My haircut was inspired by Kim Bauer of 24, season two :) But it didnt quite turn out like that. I was going for an edgy platinum do and ended up with soccer mom usa. Hmmmm....next haircut in a few weeks and perhaps we can punch it up a bit. I'd post a pic, but it seems the only time a camera is weilded around me its to take a pic of my insanely cute wee ones. That, and I still need to drop 10 more lbs before I let someone document my appearance.

Indy started daycare....it was not at all traumatic bc of my confidence in the care at the Gore ELC. I could hug those gals. They had the boy painting and napping on his very first day! Not to mention that Olivia now is on the computer as much as me bc of their encouragement at the Gore ELC....between that and her enthuisiasm for puzzles I might just have a real life little einstein (her fav show) on my hands, says the proud mama.

A friend passed along a catalogue this week to me and I am dying to buy some great frocks for Indy...I have to share: Chasing Fireflies. Too bad I'm too broke to order anything. The website itself is cheesy but the clothing is charming.

So....looking ahead...what shall we look forward to? Well, a couple of things on the horizon: UA Basketball w Senior star Elena Delle Donne. ....hoping to catch a game in the next few weeks

Valentines day....my gift to Riggs is going to be relieving him the stress of finding a gift for me by purchasing it for him. I got a great personalized necklace w the kids name on it. I love personalized stuff and think this gals work is really great:Suzanne Myers

Superbowl - my future second husband Tom Brady will carry the Pats and all of the URI Alumni aka New England fans to victory once again.

Other than that, in Feb we look forward to a visit from Katie, Jordan and Riley from Indianapolis...stay tuned for pics.
